Feng Shui translates to “the wind and the water” in Chinese and is the art of correct placement. It is believed that this 3000 year old philosophy ensures that chi energy is just right so that your environment promotes good luck. Here are some smart tips and ideas for decorating your space that even skeptics can appreciate.

The colour red is extremely important as it carries the energy of fire and stimulates us animating everything it touches. For a toned down version of this red living room throwing around a few red cushions does the job. Tip: Place red hued flowers in the SW corner of your living room to bring more heat to your romance.

Creating the right lighting goes hand and hand with bringing good ch’I home. Lighting has to be soft without sharp edges and should cast and artful glow in the room. Eyes follow the light and so light fixtures should go in aesthetic spots around the house. Dimmers are great for creating mood and setting the mood.

Bringing items and materials from nature into our homes makes us respond favorably as we are intrinsically intertwined with trees and water. Being surrounded by nature makes us more comfortable and connects us to Mother Nature soothing the mind and soul. Placing leaves or branches in vases or having indoor plants is an easy way to achieve this.

“A room’s simplicity reinforces the function of the bedroom and of sleep,” says Kathleen Cox, author of Space Matters. Having empty walls in a bedroom reflect the clearing of the mind and promotes a peaceful sleeping environment.  Also, grouping small items together rather than spreading them out helps give the appearance of efficiency.
