NATURE TRAILS AND SCENIC BEAUTY
Remember that the original grounds of Chedoke Heights was specifically chosen near the edge of the Niagara Escarpment as a healing space more than a century ago, to give tuberculosis patients fresh breezes and scenic views as part of their treatment. Today the community still boasts wonderful walking, hiking and nature trails including the Chedoke Radial Trail, part of the Bruce Trail. The Chedoke trails direct links Chedoke Golf Course below the escarpment with stairs to the upper escarpment near Chedoke Heights. Tourism Hamilton lists the trail as one of the top 10 in Hamilton.
Along the escarpment brow you’ll also find benches and scenic lookouts to appreciate nature’s bounty before your eyes.
Let’s not forget the waterfalls. Hamilton claims the nickname of waterfall capital of the world and the Chedoke Heights community has a couple just minutes away.
Not much farther away, minutes by car, you can enjoy some of the Hamilton Conservation Authority trails and waterfalls. Don’t be surprised to spot deer in their natural habitat, along with chipmunks and birds that prefer the woods to your backyard feeder.
Around the corner from Chedoke Heights, on Chedmac Drive, residents can enjoy the action underway at Chedoke Twin Pad Arena; or the adjoining Bocce Club and Multi-use Facility.
Across from the arena, families gather at the soccer field to enjoy a summer evening chatting with friends and watching the action on the pitch.
Recreation, sports, fitness, and general interest programs are also available at the nearby Westmount Recreation Centre.
Getting to and from Chedoke Heights is quick and easy. Lincoln Alexander Parkway which crosses the Mountain from east to west is 2 Km away; Highway 403 westbound to Brantford or Eastbound toward downtown Hamilton and Toronto is 2.5 Km; 5 Km to Hamilton’s downtown core; Mohawk College, 3.2 Km; McMaster University 10 Km; Hamilton International Airport 14 Km.
In addition, the neighbourhood is well served by public transit. The Sanatorium Bus runs through the neighbourhood with a stop at the downtown Hamilton GO station, and platforms in downtown Hamilton, and at Mohawk College.
Nearby major shopping areas include Meadowlands Power Centre, CF Lime Ridge Mall, Mountain Plaza, Jackson Square in downtown Hamilton and boutique shopping in the Village of Ancaster.
There are also numerous grocery stores, pharmacies and financial institutions minutes away.
ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT
Over the past decade, Hamilton has gained an enviable reputation as a hub for arts and culture (including music and food) which is celebrated monthly with Art Crawl in the area of James Street North.
Hamilton Place, First Ontario Centre and the Dofasco Centre for the Arts all host a wide variety of national and international entertainers and performances aimed at audiences of all tastes and ages.
Summer outdoor concerts have become very popular at Music at Fieldcote in nearby Ancaster.
Chedoke Heights is well served by pre-school, public, separate and private schools, as well as Mohawk College, McMaster University, Redeemer University.
